Assisting older Oklahomans to remain independent as long as possible is the primary goal of this program. Community Action Development Corporation's Senior Nutrition and Outreach is a funded NPE (Nutrition Program for Elderly), serving noon meals to those seniors 60 years and older in Beckham, Custer, Kiowa, Roger Mills, and Washita counties. Both congregate and home-delivered meals are available in the communities of Sayre, Weatherford, Mountain View, Cheyenne, and Rocky.
Not only does each site provide a hot, nutritious meal, but also allows the seniors to interact with their peers. Cards, dominos and other games are often played at the sites before and after the noon meal, and parties for birthdays and holidays are generally held.
The agency is also a contract provider for home-delivered meals with the Oklahoma Health Care Authority. Medicaid eligible clients in the five county project area can receive frozen meals; and in certain communities, hot meals.
